David Appel is vice president for Defense and Civil Solutions for Raytheon’s Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) business.  Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), with 2016 sales of $24 billion and 63,000 employees, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, civil government and cybersecurity solutions. Raytheon is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts.   

IIS is a global leader in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; advanced cybersolutions; weather and environmental solutions and information-based solutions for homeland security. It also provides training, logistics, engineering, product support, and operational support services and solutions for the mission support, homeland security, space, civil aviation, counter-proliferation and counterterrorism markets.

As vice president for Defense and Civil Solutions, David oversees an integrated Command and Control, Intelligence, Space and Weather portfolio across multiple domains with programs such as AOC, AWIPS, C2BMC, DCGS, Global Hawk, JPSS, and NISSC.  David also leads IIS’ Digital Innovation initiatives, which will drive the latest AI and commercial software development methods into our offerings.

Defense and Civil Solutions includes programs that provide capability and solutions for Department of Defense (DoD), federal, civil and international governments across the globe.

With over 25 years of Raytheon experience, David has a breadth of experience in program leadership, business operations, finance, business development, and strategic planning.

Before his current position, Appel was senior director of the legacy Mission Systems, Mission Support and Modernization Mission Area within IIS and various other business leadership roles within IIS and legacy Raytheon Technical Services Company.

David holds a master’s in business administration from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Pennsylvania State University. He is also a graduate of The National Defense University; Information Resources Management College Advanced Management Program and Chief Information Officer Program where he graduated with distinguished honors; and Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellows program. David is a qualified Raytheon Six Sigma specialist and a graduate of Raytheon’s Advanced Program Leadership (APL) and Executive Leadership Summit (XLS) program.  He was awarded the Raytheon 2008 Program Leadership Award and the Raytheon IIS 2015 Leadership Award – Competitive Advantage.
