Department of Defense (DOD) Cyber Scholarship Program

The Hume Center for National Security & Technology at Virginia Tech is seeking scholarship applicants for a new Department of Defense cybersecurity scholarship program. The Department of Defense (DoD) is interested in, "...recruiting new cyber talent and enhancing the national pipeline for the development of cyber personnel..."

Students selected for the program by the DoD will receive the full cost of tuition, books, fees, and a stipend to cover room and board. The stipend amounts are $25,000 per year for undergraduates, and $30,000 per year for graduate students. There is a service requirement for accepting the scholarship which can be met through 1 year of employment with a DoD agency for each year of scholarship received, you can also pay back the scholarship through military service.

All students who complete the program and service requirements will receive full time positions in the DoD.

  • Eligibility:
    • Rising Juniors & Seniors or Graduate/Doctoral Students
    • Must be U.S. Citizen
    • Must be able to obtain a security clearance
    • Must pursue a degree or concentration related to cybersecurity, options include:
      • Engineering Minor in Cybersecurity
      • BS in Computer Engineering
      • MS and PhD in Computer Science
      • MEng, MS, and PhD in Computer Engineering
      • Masters of Information Technology
    • GPA of 3.2 or greater as undergraduate, GPA of 3.5 or greater as graduate students
